6 Artworks – Kat Abbott

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is about expressing energy, visions and experiences symbolically through colour, line and process. My work began entirely intuitively and I strive to balance my intuitive drive with my desire to work somewhat formulaically. I love juxtaposing the real and imaginary and combining the abstract and photographic styles – it always excites me.

I love to contemplate dreams, visions, hallucinations and the imaginary in a way that celebrates the whole spectrum of experience and the inner workings of our minds and souls. This strangeness can be celebrated. Combining the abstraction of energy with animals, and the life they bring (even through an image), continues to fascinate and enthral me.

My hope for my work is quite simple: to bring joy, to uplift, to bring comfort and happiness. I love nature; the wisdom of it and the balance found in it. I get my best ideas through observation in the world, through music and through learning. Human nature intrigues me, particularly our individual experience of the word and how it shapes us. I’m always trying, at the heart of it all, to just understand this thing we call ‘life’.
