Something Possible – KB Ballentine

The cost of love is the sea kissing
the shore, a little bit left, a little more
taken away. Here and gone, whispers
of foam and spray.

Each morning, windows open to the ocean,
I gaze at a horizon that merges water and sky
into one thin stitch — indistinct, indefinable.
In the evening the surf confesses
in ebb and flow its take-all-or-leave-it promises.

I am ensnared by this murmur, this roar,
this peak and trough. This restlessness.
This constancy. This ever-present pulsing
desire.
